More on Chris, Liz and The Emsley
The house: Situated on Arden Street, which dates back to the 12th century, The Emsley is one of six unique Victorian houses built in 1866 in the high gothic Victorian style that is so unique they are protected with a conservation order. Other examples of this architecture is to be found in Oxford. She has been a home to families for over 150 years and was, for a time, a nurses’ hostel.
About Chris and Liz: We are The Emsley’s third B&B owners. We will be putting our own stamp on the house, while preserving as much of its Victorian character as we can. Let us know if there are any improvements you would recommend. We are open to anything that could improve our guests' experience.
We are from New Zealand. Liz’s parents and all Chris’s grandparents came from the UK. We decided to return to the land of our ancestors to have another life adventure while we still can. We lived and worked in the U.K. back in 2004 and 2005 after deciding to leave our careers in teaching and policing. We returned to New Zealand in 2006 and started our own tourist accommodation business. We designed and helped build Eden’s Edge Lodge near Abel Tasman National Park. We sold the lodge in April 2017 to return to the U.K. taking possession of The Emsley on 21st September, 2017.
We are Airbnb super hosts and have been recommended by both Lonely Planet (for accommodation) and Trip Advisor. While you are here our home is your home too. If you need any help, information or advice we are happy to join you in the guest lounge and provide any assistance we can.
